During the early 2022 months the kiln had started to intermittently malfunction, putting the firing process of all projects in jeopardy. The repair work was carried out by Furnace Engineering, who replaced corroded elements, kiln door and floor, also placing the control panel further away from the kiln. It is now back in operation and Franklin Pottery Club, who have open and low cost membership, are able to do weekly firings with the kiln once again.
Highlights: The kiln gets used every week during school terms, it takes a whole day for gradual heating to the top temperature and requires 3 to 4 days to cool down again. At the moment there are around 20 active potters in the Franklin Pottery Club.
Feedback:“Without the grant the Franklin Pottery Club would have had to close its doors. No kiln – no pottery. You saved us!”. Hawi Winter (Franklin Pottery Club)
