A free-to-the-public open-air concert in Waiuku was held on the 4th of February featuring local community groups including, Franklin Pipe Band, Awhitu Strummers Ukulele club, and the Kra KoTo Kra drummers. The event also hosted food trucks and was publicized as family friendly, along with a participative workshop for the public to join in with drumming.
Highlights: Due to extreme weather events in the weeks preceding the concert there were a number of last minute changes, portable toilets were required to be brought in, and two further groups were prohibited from participating due to an inability to rehearse together (Ukupella, and View Road School Choir). However, all in all the event successfully showcased local community music as entertaining and inclusive, utilizing the picturesque Sandspit Reserve to make an impactful event.
