These family workshops were run concurrently with a contemporary jeweller’s exhibition curated by Sarah Walker-Holt from Kawakawa Bay. These workshops were advertised in the local community and on the Half Pint Pottery website, 28 of the 30 attendees were from the local Franklin area. As well as being able to provide family workshops the event provided a greater local awareness of the relatively new Half Pint Gallery, whose exhibitions are not profit orientated, rather they promote a love of art and ceramics. The workshop attendees were given a tour of the exhibition during the workshops.
Highlights: Family workshops are fun and inclusive, this grant enabled diverse families to participate at an affordable price, which would otherwise not be possible. Parents working alongside children is a highlight of this work. Our next exhibitions are at the beginning of May, two emerging ceramic artists and the June touring exhibition( here and Napier) an international collaboration with NZ ceramic artists.
Feedback:“Among my favourite pieces were the jewellery dishes made by two very young jewellers preparing for their first stall at Aririmu school”. Jo Rail (Director, Half Pint Gallery
