In partnership with KraKoToKra West African Drummers, the Dance class term established a small core of dancers for both Waiuku and Pollok and we hope to continue building these numbers in future. Mon and Katie are proving to be great teachers, patient, enthusiastic, inclusive, and very technically sound. The Arts Broker Scheme grant allowed two teachers to develop their skills and build capacity while attempting to build numbers for this new class.
Highlights: It is a pleasure for myself and some of the drummers from the drumming class to accompany the dance class with our rhythms.
Feedback:“From a wellness perspective (my background), I have seen first hand the benedits of drum and dance for the brain (use it or lose it!), mental health, flexibility, fitness and strength. Yet there is another outcome that is a little harder to put into words. It has something to do with lifting vibration and the combined energy of people just learning and having fun together.” Katie Maffey (Dance workshop participant), published in Peninsularama
